As the newly appointed Director of the Nethersole School of Nursing, I am honoured and pleased to announce the School’s 30th Anniversary in 2021 and cordially invite your participation in celebrating our milestone with a series of exciting and memorable activities.
Our School is now in full swing to prepare for the ‘Community Caring Day cum CUHK Nethersole School of Nursing Alumni Carnival cum 30th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony’, which will be held in January 2021, to formally embark on our anniversary celebration throughout the year. This event echoes our mission to serve the community with compassion and demonstrates our passion for reaching out to the community to promote health and well-being of the local population, especially older people.
To protect our participants during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are planning to go for an innovative hybrid mode combining online and offline sessions for the Caring Day activities if social gathering restriction can be a bit relaxed. A wide variety of activities such as health talks and assessment, mass health exercises, and fun family games will be organised to unite our students and alumni and contribute to promote community care by creating happy moments and memorable experiences for the public, families and older people. During the event, Outstanding Alumni Awards will be presented to our alumni who have made remarkable contributions and innovations in health care or related fields, building a healthier community or a better tomorrow.
Another signature anniversary event is the 7th Pan-Pacific Nursing Conference to be held in May 2021. While the Caring Day is for enhancing local health, this conference is focused on promoting health for all by bringing nursing and health care delegates worldwide together to share and discuss the significant global health issues or challenges. Internationally renowned scholars and experts will be invited as speakers to deliver insightful presentations and discussions with participants during the conference. Our School has been very successful in hosting the previous six Pan-Pacific Nursing Conferences, and the upcoming one is expected to continue this success in creating rewarding experiences for all participants and generating significant health care impacts.
In addition to the above, we will publish the 30th Anniversary Book and newspaper supplements as documentary records of the milestones, successes and achievements of our School over our past three decades. We will also co-organise the Faculty Gala Dinner as a climax of both the 40th Anniversary of Faculty of Medicine and our School’s 30th Anniversary celebrations by the end of 2021.
Since inception in 1991, our School has been growing from strength to strength to become a prominent nursing institution with an outstanding international reputation in nursing education, research and practice. I am glad that this year CU Nursing is recognised in the QS World University Rankings as the top nursing school in Hong Kong and Asia, keeping a proud record of being ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong for six consecutive years.
‘The future is rooted in the past’. In celebrating the School’s 30th Anniversary, we shall continue to work with dedication and compassion and strive to build on our excellence to attain greater success in the decades to come.
